Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you. I hope everyone had their snow fix the past few days.
I reread my column in Thursday’s paper, and remarkably, everything went as planned. I was worried for a short while on round one when snowfall was a little short of predictions.
Friday’s storm caught things up and most everyone in Clark County had 10 to 15 inches.
I had so many reports and can’t list them all but 15 inches above Washougal was the highest, 10 inches in Hazel Dell and 12 inches in Felida.
The farther east of Interstate 5 you went, the wind was blowing so hard and with temperatures in the mid-20s, the snow was powdery and blew away in some places and piled up deep in others.
Good for sledding but not so much for building snow people or snowball battles. It is rare to see snow of this type here blowing off rooftops. We usually get the wetter variety as you know.
As I mentioned Thursday, we could see some sleet and freezing rain and for a while we did. The southern boundary of mixed precipitation moved back south of the Columbia River and Clark County was the snowfall winner in the greater metro area.
Any more snow on the way? Nope. Another storm arrives later today with plain rain, however areas where it is freezing or below will see freezing rain for a short while. The cold air retreats back eastward in the Gorge and we get the weather back to normal.
Overall, for the entire county, this was the greatest snowfall since December 2008. I know those of you in Salmon Creek and Felida are saying hold on. Yes, while in January 2017 you had 12 to 15 inches of snow, the rest of Clark County however only measured a few inches.
I received several emails from frustrated readers complaining about the missed forecast by the woolly bears. Look at it this way, they were buried underneath that foot of snow on the ground. Karma?
