Clark County reported 47 new COVID-19 cases and one new death on Wednesday as disease activity continue to ebb from a post-holidays surge.

Clark County Public Health reported that the fatality was a woman in her 70s with an underlying condition. Her death brings to 204 the total number of people who died as a result of COVID-19 in Clark County. Two deaths have been reported this week, down from 20 last week and 16 the week before.

The new cases push the county’s total number of COVID-19 cases to 17,657, according to Public Health data. The county has reported an average of about 52 new cases a day since Friday, down from last week’s average of 77 cases per day. At the post-holiday surge’s peak in early January, the county was averaging about 180 new cases a day.

The number of active cases fell. That index, which tracks people still in their isolation period after a COVID-19 diagnosis, was at 387 on Wednesday, down from 402 on Tuesday, according to Public Health data.

There were 38 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Clark County, down from 57 on Tuesday, and there were 11 people hospitalized awaiting test results, up from eight on Tuesday.

The new data was released as Clark County Public Health announced it was setting up a call center to provide resources for determining COVID-19 vaccine eligibility and options for scheduling vaccine appointments — though not actually making the appointments directly.

The call center employees will also be able to help people complete the COVID-19 vaccine request form on the Clark County Public Health website, which is used to refer people who live or work in Clark County to a local facility with COVID-19 vaccine.

“Public Health call center representatives cannot schedule vaccination appointments,” Public Health said in an announcement released Wednesday.

People with questions about COVID-19 and local vaccination efforts can call 1-888-225-4625 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Language assistance is available. Calls made after hours or when representatives are busy will be directed to voicemail to be returned as quickly as possible, though it may take a few days.

People with questions or needing help with the online scheduling system for the Clark County Event Center at The Fairgrounds can contact an Albertsons/Safeway representative 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday at 253-259-6312.

Additional information about COVID-19 vaccine eligibility and how to access vaccine is available on the Clark County Public Health COVID-19 vaccine webpage.
