Clark County’s COVID-19 activity level fell sharply in data released Tuesday by Clark County Public Health as the rate of new infections continues to decline.
The county reported 262.2 new cases per 100,000 population over 14 days, down from a rate of 310.5 reported Feb. 1. The rate peaked at 473.7 in data reported Jan. 18, according to Public Health.
The activity rate is is being used as guidance for school reopening plans. The new rate puts Clark County solidly in the “moderate” activity range of 50 to 350 set by state officials.
Information about the new rate came as the county reported 26 new cases of COVID-19 and one death, a woman age 80 or older with an underlying condition, according to Public Health. As of Tuesday, Clark County has recorded 17,610 cases of COVID-19 and 203 deaths from the disease.
Updated testing data released Tuesday showed when the rate of new infections began to fall in Clark County. The latest data, covering the week of Jan. 17-23, showed 698 positive tests out of 7,249 total tests, or a positivity rate of 9.63 percent.

A positivity rate less than 10 percent is a critical benchmark in the state’s “Roadmap to Recovery” reopening plan. The county remains in Phase 1, with the next update scheduled for Friday. Test positivity had risen as high as 13.03 percent in the week of Dec. 27 through Jan. 2, during a post-holiday surge in cases, and rates have been slowly falling ever since.
There were 402 active cases as of Tuesday, down from 459 on Monday, according to Public Health. Active cases are people with COVID-19 who are still in their isolation period.
Hospitalizations had been declining but rose again Tuesday, with 57 people hospitalized with COVID-19, up from 40 on Monday, and eight people hospitalized awaiting test results, up from two on Monday.
