We managed to make it to the end of the first week of February without any major weather issues. Other than the overcast gray skies and drippy drizzle and showers. Oh, where or where is the sunshine? I’ll get to that in a moment.
The next three days we will still see some cloudiness and light moisture before we see cooler and drier air filter in and the sun shines again. I mentioned in my last column about cooler weather this week. It is still on track, so let’s dig in.
An area of extreme arctic air from the polar vortex, if you like that term, has brought bitter cold weather east of the Rockies. Temperatures this weekend are way below zero, some locations had snow falling and 30 degrees below zero. Eventually, forecast models show that huge trough of cold air shifting slightly to the west. Hey, that’s us!
The big if will be how much cold air seeps over the Rockies and into the Columbian Basin. We will get easterly winds by midweek and some modified arctic air covers the county. Lows in the teens and 20s are possible and highs in the low 40s downward, possibility into the low 30s.
