Clark County recorded two new deaths from COVID-19 on Wednesday as data processing issues kept daily numbers low, according to Clark County Public Health.

The fatalities were a man in his 70s and a man age 80 or older, both with underlying health conditions. Their deaths bring the county’s toll from COVID-19 to 189. Seven deaths have been reported since Friday; last week, the county reported 16 deaths.

The number of new cases grew by 36 on Wednesday, putting the county’s total at 17,240 cases to date, but Public Health cautioned that a lab processing delay affecting the Washington State Department of Health means not all positive cases are reflected in the total.

The number of active cases fell to 547 on Wednesday, down from 599 on Tuesday. Active cases track people with COVID-19 still in their isolation period.

Hospitalizations rose slightly. There were 47 people hospitalized with COVID-19, up from 44 on Tuesday, and seven people hospitalized awaiting test results, up from five on Tuesday.

Public Health reported that 87.5 percent of the county’s licensed intensive care unit beds were occupied, up from 78.1 percent on Tuesday.
