Several local law enforcement agencies will continue additional holiday season DUI patrols for New Year’s Eve.

The participating agencies include the Battle Ground and Vancouver police departments, Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Washington State Patrol, with assistance from Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency.

People should celebrate responsibly, and plan ahead for how to get home safely. If you see a suspected impaired driver, call 911.

More than 50 percent of fatal crashes in Washington are caused by driving under the influence, according to a news release from Target Zero, the state’s initiative to end traffic fatalities and serious injuries by 2030.

Nationally, over the past five years, an average of 300 people have died in impaired driving crashes the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day, according to a news release from the Oregon State Patrol.
