Weather Eye: Cold weather remains this week before warmup Sunday

Some of us enjoyed a white Christmas but most in our area did not but saw some snowflakes in the air. Snow covered most of Clark County the day after Christmas, so I’ll let you determine if we had an official white Christmas where you were.

Snow showers increased Sunday afternoon and evening as a weak weather system moved down from the north ushering in cold arctic air. Most locations received a dusting to 3 inches.

Clouds were increasing late Monday from another weak system sliding down the coast. It was expected to drop a dusting to a couple inches locally and more along the coastline.

One place that did have an “official” white Christmas was the south Washington Coast with Long Beach and Ocean Park measuring 2 or 3 inches with big fluffy flakes.

Cold weather remains with us today through Thursday. After the clouds and flurries move through, colder air arrives. Wednesday may be partly sunny before clouds and snow return Wednesday night. Forecast models predict that the Thursday storm would switch winds from the south and warm us up a bit with snow changing to a mix of snow and rain. Also, a small possibility of freezing rain. Stay tuned as this scenario develops.

A larger storm is forecast by Sunday that finally warms us up, according to forecast models. Another chance of cold and snow next week so we are not out of the woods yet.
