President Joe Biden plans to address the nation on Jan. 6 as the U.S. marks one year since the storming of the Capitol.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Wednesday that Biden would make a speech to commemorate the deadly attack carried out by thousands of supporters of former President Donald Trump.
“It’s safe to say the American people will hear from him on that day,” Psaki said. “We’ll have more to say as we get closer.”
Biden’s decision to address the nation sets up a dramatic direct conflict with Trump, who says he will hold a news conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida that day.
