The final tally from this year’s Walk & Knock/Drive & Drop food drive, which took place on Dec. 3, is in.

More than 104,000 pounds of food were collected and $90,000 in donations raised.

That’s enough to provide more than 446,000 meals, or enough to feed 1,000 people three meals a day for five months, according to Walk & Knock President Tom Knappenberger.

This year, instead of picking up donations from porches, volunteers accepted donations at drop-off locations throughout Clark County in order to minimize contact due to the ongoing pandemic.

“I dropped by all 10 sites, and it was heartwarming to see the lines of cars waiting to donate, and our folks loading bags of groceries into tote boxes and then into the donated semi-trailers,” Knappenberger said. “The outpouring of folks and the grit of our volunteers reaffirmed my belief in the goodness of our community.”

Walk & Knock is the largest local one-day food drive in the United States. Over its 37-year history, more than 8.8 million pounds of food, valued at $15.8 million, have been raised at the event, according to a press release.

Even though the event is over until next year — Dec. 3, 2022 — people can still donate to the organization through its website.
