The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition honored Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle during a virtual event Tuesday for her advocacy and leadership in Vancouver.

“Let’s face it, mayors across the country are on the front lines every day, addressing global issues that are now kitchen table issues — from the pandemic to our economy — that matter to their constituents,” the coalition’s president and CEO, Liz Schrayer, said in a written statement.

This wasn’t an award that McEnerny-Ogle or city workers applied for. Rather, the coalition independently reviewed Vancouver’s overall operations and the council’s strategic work.

Vancouver’s efforts in climate work, building partnerships for economic development with Portland, combating food and housing insecurity, and community policing made its leadership stand out.

McEnerny-Ogle said the city’s response to COVID-19 also was impressive, including implementing economic strategies and making videos to encourage wearing masks and getting vaccinated.

McEnerny-Ogle and 90 other mayors across the country received the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition’s award.

The Washington, D.C.-based organization promotes increased support through political lobbying for international affairs to improve the nation’s national security and humanitarian involvement.

It is comprised of many philanthropic leaders, as well as former Cabinet officials, members of Congress, and generals and admirals. More than 500 businesses and nongovernment organizations across the country form its coalition to build support for an international affairs budget.
