Crews began preparing Southeast First Street for upcoming construction that will incorporate sidewalks, bike lanes, stormwater drains, streetlights and sound walls.

The upgrades on the rural two-lane street will improve safety, vehicle capacity and connectivity along the east Vancouver corridor.

Crews from Lee Contractors will focus on Southeast First Street from 164th Avenue east to 177th Avenue and complete the work by fall 2022. The street will be open during construction, but there may be traffic delays along the corridor. City staff recommend using alternative routes to avoid potential disruptions.

This is the first phase of the city’s project that will stretch from 164th Avenue to 192nd Avenue.

The full project is estimated to cost about $15 million, and it is funded by state and federal grants, as well as local Transportation Benefit District funds.

Phase two construction from 177th to 192nd Avenue is anticipated to begin in late 2022.

Construction updates can be found at cityofvancouver.us/firststreet.
