With temperatures in Clark County and around the Northwest expected to exceed 100 degrees this week, cooling centers are opening to help residents who may need to get out of the heat.

On Monday, the National Weather Service in Portland issued an Excessive Heat Warning, which goes into effect at noon Wednesday and continues through 10 p.m. Saturday.

Dangerously hot conditions with temperatures up to 105 degrees are expected, according to NWS Portland. The hottest day of the heat wave is expected to be Thursday. Overnight temperatures will likely remain in the mid-60s to low 70s.

According to the Council for the Homeless, there may be some motel vouchers available for those age 60 and older and families with children. Contact the council for more information at 360-695-9677.

No referrals are needed. Due to COVID-19, face coverings will be required at cooling centers.
