WASHOUGAL — Sixteen Jemtegaard Middle School eighth-graders were welcomed to the Washougal High School Advancement Via Individual Determination program, better known as AVID.
The program is an elective that offers rigorous class content focusing on areas such as writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading.
The students were welcomed into the program at a June 7 ceremony in the school’s courtyard by AVID Counselor Michele Mederos and WHS Associate Principal Michelle Massar.
“Being a part of AVID also creates a positive peer group for these students and helps them to develop a sense of hope and personal achievement gained through hard work and determination,” a news release stated.
