Letter: PeaceHealth requirement is sensible

Thanks and congratulations to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center for requiring that all caregivers be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Because of the high transmissibility of the delta strain of COVID-19, I believe that this was the right and the prudent thing for our hospital to do. As the Hippocratic oath says: “First, do no harm.”

We are in good company. Last Monday, the Veterans Administration, which is the largest health care system in the country, required vaccination. Most health care professional associations have asked that it be required as well.

With COVID-19 having killed more Americans than we lost in World War I, World War II and Vietnam combined, PeaceHealth was right to require this commonsense solution.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
