Firefighters say a “stubborn” brush fire broke out Monday afternoon near Klineline Pond, causing smoky skies.

An off-duty battalion chief with Clark County Fire District 6 was the first to call 911, according to the fire agency.

Fire District 6 crews responded at 3:32 p.m. on the east side of Interstate 5; the fire was not in the park, according to a news release.

Shifting winds and dry underbrush fueled the fire up the hillside, where crews were concerned it could threaten houses, the fire agency said. No structures were damaged.

The Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.
