Hayden Rose scored 22 points, including a big basket late as the Prairie boys basketball team fended off a late Kelso charge to beat the visiting Hilanders 54-49 on Friday night.
The Falcons led 50-33 after three quarters, but only managed four points in the final period. Kelso got within three when Rose’s basket gave Prairie a five-point lead with about two minutes to go.
Senior Nick Baker added 13 points, including back-to-back 3-pointers during a key stretch of the third quarter.
Sophomore Cody Gardner got the start at point guard in place of Reece Walling, who suffered a sprained ankle in Thursday’s win over Mountain View.
Michael Foust paced Kelso with 19 points.
BATTLE GROUND 76, HERITAGE 57 — Kaden Perry scored 30 of his 35 points in the second half as the Tigers pulled away.
Heritage limited Perry quiet in the first half and trailed the Tigers 35-29.
But Perry and Ty Robertson combined for all 20 of the Tigers’ third-quarter points as Battle Ground opened up a 55-41 edge.
Quincy Gill led Heritage with 17 points.
UNION 65, CAMAS 61 — Kaden Horn scored 19 and points Izaiah Vongnath added 17, including two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as the Titans rallied past Camas.
Camas led 37-31 at halftime and remained ahead 51-48 heading into the fourth quarter.
Camas’ Carson Frawley led all scorers with 22 points.
Girls basketball
CAMAS 60, UNION 41 — The Camas girls basketball team gave Union a heavy dose of senior leadership from outside and inside.
Senior Katelynn Forner hit four 3-pointers in the first quarter and senior Faith Bergstrom scored 16 of her game-high 24 points in the second half as the Papermakers rolled to a 4A/3A Greater St. Helens League victory on Friday.
With Forner hitting from the outside, Camas surged to a 25-9 lead after first quarter and kept the Titans at bay the rest of the way. Forner finished with 16 points.
Abbey Kaip led Union 12 points and Lolo Weatherspoon added 11.
PRAIRIE 52, KELSO 35 — Claire Heitschmidt scored 21 points as Prairie won its third in a row after a season-opening loss.
Hannah Clouse added 11 for the Falcons, who outscored Kelso 29-12 in the second half.
HERITAGE 48, BATTLE GROUND 24 — Katie Peneueta hit four 3-pointers and scores a game-high 20 points to lead the Timberwolves.
Keanna Salavea added 15 points for Heritage. Candice Adams paced the Tigers with 11.
