BATTLE GROUND —Students from Prairie High School and Maple Grove Primary collaborated with a Portland-area folk and bluegrass group called The Misty Mamas for a virtual variety show, “Sounds of Earth.”

The concert was held April 1 and aired on Battle Ground Public Schools YouTube channel. Raising awareness for the Columbia Land Trust, it showcased the importance of the Earth and natural world. Students from both schools prepared music from the performance, including “The Fox,” “In Time of Silver Rain,” “Woodsmoke and Oranges,” and other numbers that celebrate the Earth.

“Students are at the heart of everything about this concert experience, from the planning and advertisement, to the content of the concert,” Douglas Orofino, Prairie High School teacher and choir director, said in a news release. “My hope is that this experience teaches them they are capable of making a difference in their community.”
