Prep Highlights: La Center, King’s Way split DH to share Trico title

Tom Lambert threw a complete-game two-hitter as La Center beat King’s Way Christian 5-2 in the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday.

Ty Mairs hit two triples and a double as King’s Way earned a split by taking the second game 5-3 in La Center.

That means La Center and King’s Way finish tied atop the 1A Trico League at 9-1.

Lambert was in command in the opener, striking out five and walking one. La Center scored three runs in the fourth behind Riley Fender’s RBI double and Jack Saban’s two-RBI single.

Mairs scored twice and had two RBI, including a double that broke a 3-3 tie in the fourth inning of the nightcap.

That backed a solid outing by Max Mitchell, who struck out eight and walked one in a complete game.

Stars of the day

  • Casen Reed, Mountain View baseball, went 2 for 3 with a home run, triple and six RBI. He also pitched five innings, striking out seven and allowing just two hits.
  • Lillie Mueller and Grace Pool, Hockinson girls tennis, teamed up for a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles in the Hawks 5-1 win over Skyview.
  • Freya Strathman-Reinwald, Heritage softball, hit a three-run homer to put the Timberwolves ahead in a 5-3 win over Prairie.
  • Logan Simmons, Columbia River boys soccer, scored two goals in a 4-0 win over R.A. Long.
  • David Kailea, Evergreen boys track and field, won the shot put (43-11) and discus with a personal best 122-7 in the meet against Kelso.
  • Josie Settle, Kelso girls track and field, won four events in the meet with Evergreen, taking the 100 hurdles (17.91), 300 hurdles (54.36), high jump (5-0) and long jump (16-2).
  • Jalen Salavea, Skyview boys track and field, won the shot put (41-0) and discus (100-2) with personal best marks in a meet with Battle Ground.
  • Jaelyn Sayler, Skyview girls track and field, won the shot put (30-8) and discus (92-8) to help the Storm beat Battle Ground.
  • Jude Willis, Ridgefield boys soccer, scored both Spudders goals in a 2-1 win over Woodland.
  • Walter Beltran, Hudson’s Bay boys soccer, had a goal and an assist in a 3-2 win over Mark Morris, with Bay winning a shootout 4-2.
  • Sami Meyers, Columbia River girls golf, shot 2-over 39 for the low round in a match against Hockinson.
