SALMON CREEK — Skyview High School senior Liyu Huang was selected as a finalist and winner of a $5,625 scholarship from the National Honor Society. Huang was chosen from close to 10,000 applicants. A Youth Blood Services lead for Southwest Washington Red Cross, Huang has organized blood drives and supported schools and individuals new to blood services. Some of the drives have collected more than 100 pints of blood each day. He also co-founded Future Medical Professionals Club and the International Teens Upholding Nature Association. “It’s inspiring and uplifting to see the incredible work of our students who strive each day to make sure their communities are a better place for all. We’re so proud that we can invest in Liyu’s future and the other talented and compassionate leaders,” Ronn Nozoe, CEO of National Association of Secondary School Principals, the parent organization of the honor society, said in a news release.
