WASHOUGAL – The city of Washougal held a grand opening and ribbon cutting in honor of a new community garden on March 25.
The Downtown Community Garden at 2036 Main St. is a project by the Washougal Parks & Recreation Community Program. Members from the city and the city’s Park Board of Commissioners cut the ribbon for the new garden, which has 27 plots and six wheelchair-accessible plots. Each lease is for a one-year term that can be renewed.
“Staff and park board members hope that citizens will see the investment the city is making to enhance the quality of life for residents,” a news release said. “Additionally, the garden provides an alternative source for food, educational opportunities and green space for residents who do not have yards or their own property.”
