It was one of those lazy spring days Wednesday as I sat out on my deck in mid 60-degree weather and full sunshine. It was enough to give me a tad bit of spring fever. Anyone else? I forced myself to venture out in the backyard and do some spring cleanup with the flower beds while the sun was shining.
I kind of felt like a bear waking up from winter hibernation. I moved slowly and retreated to my rocking chair on the deck for those sun breaks. I believe nature was moving slowly Wednesday as well after another frosty morning. It was 30 degrees in the downtown area of Vancouver and in the upper 20s out in the outlying areas. Chilly.
As I write this column Wednesday, the thermometer is slowly creeping upward. That 70-degree forecasted high may have been hanging out on the branch a little too far. At 5 p.m. in Vancouver it was 68 degrees, which was an impressive 38-degree rise from the early morning low temperature. Also, the warmest so far this year. It may have inched up after 5 p.m.
With those clear skies did you see the mountains to our east? Mount Hood and Mount St. Helens were a brilliant white with oodles of snow. Even the foothills were white with snow. March will go into the record books as a dry and cool month. The average mean temperature was 2.4 degrees below normal. Rainfall was only 1.43 inches in Vancouver, over 2 inches below average.
