Firefighters responded to a structure fire Tuesday at an old house being used as a chicken shed.

Clark County Fire District 10 crews were dispatched shortly before 5 p.m. to 34919 N.E. Taylor Valley Road, for the report of a residential fire.

Assistant Chief Gordon Brooks said the house is rundown but intact, including its electricity, and was being used for the chickens. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but an electrical issue in part of the house likely caused the fire, he said, as there is generally degradation of wiring in uninhabited structures.

The fire was essentially extinguished when the first engine arrived. Flames melted plastic plumbing, spraying the fire with water and saving the chickens, Brooks said.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
