I-5 south slow through Vancouver; crash closes lanes on Highway 500 east

The Tuesday morning commute was rough for drivers on both the east and west sides of Vancouver.

Continuing work on the Interstate 5 Bridge has the left lane closed through downtown Vancouver. Similar to Monday, traffic backed up to north of state Highway 500. And traffic on Highway 500 west approaching the merge with the freeway slowed to a crawl. On Monday the backups persisted through most of the day.

A crash on the Highway 500 near Fourth Plain Boulevard before 8 a.m. blocked all lanes for vehicle recovery, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. The left lane remained blocked around 8:30 a.m. but slowed traffic was able to get through. One lane of the Interstate 205 onramp was also blocked. There was no word on injuries but an ambulance was called to the scene.

Eastbound traffic quickly backed up to Andresen Road.

Interstate 205 was smooth sailing through Clark County.
