Vancouver Landing, the western half of the pier at Terminal 1, is scheduled to close for renovation starting Monday. The Port of Vancouver, which owns Terminal 1, announced the news in a press release Tuesday.

The initial round of work will focus on seismic improvements to the pier including adding 20 steel piles and modifying the top deck, according to the press release. Starting next spring and continuing into the fall of 2021, crews will add public seating areas and underground utility infrastructure.

The project is part of a planned redevelopment of the overall Terminal 1 space, which is slated to include construction of a hotel, multiple mixed-use buildings and a public market building on the eastern half of the pier, replacing the existing Red Lion Hotel building.

The eastern half of the pier will need to be demolished and rebuilt, but the western half is in better condition and only needs renovation. The western half of the pier includes an amphitheater and an access ramp down to a nearby floating dock, both of which will be closed during construction.
