Clark County adds 21 new COVID-19 cases, no new deaths

Weekly data shows people in their 20s continue to account for the largest number of new infections

Clark County Public Health reported 21 new COVID-19 cases but no new deaths on Wednesday as demographic data shows people in their 20s accounted for an even larger share of new infections than the previous week.

The 21 new cases brings the county’s total to 2,818 cases to date. To date, 52 people have died from COVID-19, according to Public Health.

The number of active cases rose by 13 to 122 as of Wednesday, according to Public Health. Active cases is a new statistic that counts the number of people with confirmed cases who are still in their isolation period.

There are 23 people hospitalized with COVID-19 and 13 hospitalized awaiting test results, according to Public Health.

Public Health also released new demographic data that shows people in their 20s accounted for the largest number of new cases between Sept. 2 and Sept. 8. That age group accounted for 42 new cases, or about 24 percent of the 178 new cases reported in that period. People in that age group accounts for about 19 percent of all cases to date.

For the seven days ending Sept. 1, that age group accounted for 34 new cases or 19.4 percent of the total cases in the previous week, according to Public Health data.

The proportion of new cases was higher than previously for youth ages 10-19, with 20 cases or about 11 percent of the cases reported during the period. That age group is about 9 percent of total COVID-19 cases to date.

In other age groups, there were 32 new cases (18 percent of the total) reported for people in their 30s, which matches the proportion of cases to date. There were also 32 new cases in the period for people in their 40s, which was slightly higher than their proprtion of cases to date (16 percent).

In other age groups, there were 23 new cases (13 percent of the total) for people in their 50s, 8 cases (4 percent of the total) for people in their 60s, 9 cases (5 percent of the total) for people in their 70s, and 7 cases (4 percent of the total) for people age 80 and older.

There were 5 new cases in the period for children age 9 or under, or 3 percent of the total.
