Continued testing for COVID-19 has turned up 39 new cases in numbers released Thursday by Clark County Public Health. No new deaths were reported.
The new cases bring the total number reported in Clark County to 2,688 since early March. The number of deaths remains at 51, with the last death reported Monday.
There are 17 people hospitalized with COVID-19 and eight people hospitalized awaiting test results, according to Clark County Public Health.
The new numbers were posted as health officials warned area residents to take precautions when considering heading to a gathering over the Labor Day weekend.
“Small private gatherings continue to be a common place where COVID-19 spreads,” Public Health said in a post on social media. “In July, private gatherings of 1-10 people were the likely source of exposure for 22 percent of Clark County COVID-19 cases, for which exposure data was available.”
Public Health said gatherings should be limited to no more than five people from outside of the household, which is the largest size allowed under Phase 2.
Also, face coverings should be worn anytime people are gathering with others from outside of their household — not just in public places.
“Please take precautions to help us slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community, so we can continue to reopen our schools and bring more students back to their classrooms,” the Public Health post said.
