The body of a Ariel fisherman who fell out of his kayak Sunday on the Columbia River near Woodland has been recovered, according to the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office.

Volunteer searchers and divers recovered 35-year-old Mark A. Bunker Jr.’s body about 300 feet from the shore Tuesday evening. He fell into the river at an area known as Martin’s Bar, which is west of Woodland. The sheriff’s office did not have further information on the divers that made the recovery.

Bunker had been fishing from the riverbank, family members and witnesses told deputies. He used the kayak to take his fishing line about 300 yards from shore and fell from the kayak as he dropped his line, deputies said.

He wasn’t wearing a life jacket, according to deputies.

The sheriff’s office did not have further information on the divers that made the recovery.
