Vancouver Heights construction project will add new water main

Construction has begun on a project to install a new water transmission main extending two miles east from Vancouver’s Water Station 5.

Work will occur along portions of East Mill Plain Boulevard, north on Garrison Road, and east on Northeast 12th Street, through the end of March 2021.

A scheduled pavement restoration of North Garrison Road between East Mill Plain Boulevard and Northeast 14th Street will follow in spring 2021, when weather permits. For other streets, pavement will be restored where disturbed by construction.

Construction hours are typically 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, but may include evenings and weekends. Some nighttime construction is also possible where needed to reduce potential traffic impacts.

During construction along East Mill Plain Boulevard, one westbound lane will remain open. Where needed for construction safety, the westbound bike lane may be closed, and vehicles and bikes will share the road. Eastbound travelers should not be impacted, and nearby businesses and residences will remain accessible.

The new water main was identified in the city’s 2015 Comprehensive Water System Plan as a necessary improvement to address pressure deficiencies and balance system pressures. It will also increase capacity to move water from west to east.
