More than 4,600 pounds of unwanted medications were collected around Clark County over the weekend as part of a drug take-back event.

The event helps keep substances out of the wrong hands and out of the area’s landfills and waterways, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

All the medication collected during the event is weighed, secured in boxes and handed over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration to be destroyed.

About 1,400 people dropped off medications, the police department said.
