The Vancouver Fire Department responded to a garage fire early Sunday morning, snuffing it out before it could spread to the house.

Emergency crews were dispatched to 5613 N.E. 99th St. just before 5 a.m. after an occupant noticed smoke in the garage.

Firefighters traced the fire to a couch in the garage, according to Capt. Joe Spatz, a Vancouver Fire Department spokesman. The fire was quickly put out.

The garage sustained smoke and heat damage, along with minor smoke damage to the house.

Two VFD fire engines and a ladder truck were joined by one unit from Clark County Fire District 6.

The Clark County Fire Marshall was investigating the cause of the fire. No damage estimates were available Sunday afternoon.
