Letter: Leave sex education to parents

By Daphne Kivinen, Vancouver
Published: October 14, 2020, 6:00am

If a parent finds that their child needs specialized sex education then they should find someone to provide that education privately or step up to the plate and teach their child themselves. Parents are called to raise their children, not our public school system. If you have children, then you should have the education needed to provide your child with sex education when their age is appropriate. That also gives a parent the freedom and the opportunity to teach their child when they believe their child is old enough to receive and understand it. Please do not interfere in the raising of other families’ children. They are not yours to raise.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
