When it rains it pours, and in some locations of our local area it surely did Saturday. Not as much rain fell in the official rain gauge at Pearson Field, but I had reports of over an inch of rain farther away from the city.
A robust cold front moved through Friday overnight into Saturday, and after its passage we had some nice sunbreaks in the afternoon and temperatures in the middle 60s. Unstable air aloft was moving in with the daytime heating. Did you see any of those towering white puffy clouds? Scattered thunderstorms were also noted here and there. Boy, we really needed the rain.
Today another weather system rolls through in the afternoon and evening with gusty southerly winds generally in the 30-40 mph range and 50 mph or better along exposed areas along the coast. Stormy tonight. Showers linger Monday and Tuesday and then as promised, high pressure joins our party once again.
Wednesday through Saturday look pleasant for mid-October, and with a little luck we may see another 70-degree high later in the week, especially if we get some easterly winds. Now, I’m basing this forecast off what I see on forecast charts Saturday. Hopefully our plans stay afloat.
