A person died at the scene of a two-alarm house fire in the Minnehaha area north of Vancouver Saturday evening.

Vancouver firefighters rushed to 5108 N.E. 66th Ave. just after 7 p.m. to find a single-story ranch-style house ablaze. They received a report that someone was inside and “went into rescue mode,” said Vancouver Fire Capt. Raymond Egan. Emergency crews declared the person dead, Egan said.

A total of 34 firefighters responded and brought the fire under control by 7:30 p.m. The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze, but the Clark County Sheriff’s Office was also on scene, Egan said.

One firefighter suffered a minor burn injury, the Vancouver Fire Department said in a news release.
