ELLSWORTH SPRINGS — Evergreen Habitat for Humanity’s Annual “Raising the Roof” Benefit Breakfast moved to a virtual platform this year, held on Sept. 24. The event raised a total of $65,218, which is expected to grow. Proceeds will benefit Evergreen Habitat for Humanity and be used to start infrastructure at a nine-home subdivision in east Vancouver called Johnson Village. “We have seen firsthand the importance of home during the COVID-19 pandemic, and we’re grateful the community is standing with us to ensure families have safe and affordable housing,” said Josh Townsley, executive director. “Together, we continue to build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.” Jim Mains was the emcee. The benefit featured a dedication ceremony of the organization’s most recently completed home for the Mang Shang family. Viewers watched as Ting and Sengraw received keys to their new home and took their first tour of the completed home. When asked what made them want to become citizens, Ting said “I am proud to become an American and live where I can raise my family and be safe.”
