Clark County recorded 50 new COVID-19 cases — one of the highest single-day increases on record — on Thursday as a surge in disease activity continues.

No new deaths were reported Thursday by Clark County Public Health. To date, 62 people have died from COVID-19, according to Public Health data.

The new case number is one of the highest single-day totals on record, though less than the 61 new cases reported Aug. 4, according to Public Health data. It brings the average number of cases since Friday to 38 per day, continuing a trend of increasing COVID-19 activity in Clark County.

The cases reported Thursday are not associated with a large outbreak, according to Public Health spokeswoman Marissa Armstrong. There are simply more cases overall in the community.

To date, Clark County has recorded 3,776 cases of COVID-19, according to Public Health data.

There are 23 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Clark County and 13 hospitalized awaiting test results, according to Public Health.

The surge in cases was reflected in the number of active cases reported by Public Health, rising from 119 on Wednesday to 169 on Thursday, counting new cases still in their 10-day isolation period.
