Vancouver Public Schools is soliciting suggestions for new mascots for Columbia River High School.

The school board retired the Chieftain name and mascot on Sept. 8 at the urging of current and former students, community members and local tribal leaders.

Community members, parents and staff members can submit their suggestions at https://vansd.sjc1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_dmL4Vnwhcjd11cx. Students will be sent a separate link to submit their suggestions.

Suggestions should reflect the geographical features of the region and celebrate the history of the school. They should not be similar to other local mascots or logos.

The deadline for submissions is Oct. 31. A team of alumni, student and staff will review the suggestions and pick finalists in December. Students will vote on their new mascot in the spring.
