Clark County recorded two new deaths from COVID-19 and 35 new cases in data released Thursday by Clark County Public Health.

The fatalities were a man in his 70s and a woman age 80 or older, according to Public Health. Both had underlying health conditions.

It was the third day in a row that Clark County has recorded at least one death from COVID-19. The total number of deaths stands at 59 to date.

The 35 new cases bring the county’s total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 3,509. The county has been averaging about 35 new cases a day since Saturday, according to Public Health data.

The number of active cases rose to 142 on Thursday, in a metric that counts positive COVID-19 cases still in their 10-day isolation period.

There were 27 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Clark County and eight people hospitalized awaiting test results.

The pace of new cases has surged in recent weeks, lifting the county’s activity rate into the “high” category for school reopening.

The percent of positive tests surged to 5.12 percent in the week ending Sept. 5 and 3.66 percent in the week ending Sept. 12, just before the current uptick in new cases began.
