All lanes of I-5 south open through Vancouver

All lanes of Interstate 5 southbound through Vancouver have reopened. The left lane had been closed this week to complete an Interstate 5 Bridge repair project that started Sept. 19.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, crews ended the single-lane closure overnight.

The single-lane closure on the freeway approaching the bridge had caused significant traffic slowing most of the week, including backing up traffic on state Highway 500.

The northbound span of the bridge reopened Saturday, but the southbound left lane had to remain closed while crews restored the freeway median. The closures were part of a project to replace the northbound span’s trunnion.

Heavy fog Thursday morning didn’t cause problems for commuters. Both interstates 5 and 205 were smooth sailing through Clark County.
