Northbound Interstate Bridge maintenance may cause overnight travel delays Friday

Maintenance crews plan to lift the northbound span of the Interstate Bridge as many as eight times overnight Friday potentially causing Interstate 5 delays into Vancouver.

Crews from the Oregon Department of Transportation plan to grease 1.5 miles of cable on the northbound lift mechanism. The process requires bridge lifts lasting as long as 20 minutes. The work is scheduled for 10 p.m. Friday through 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20-21.

This maintenance work will have no impact on southbound traffic.

Northbound travelers may want to use Interstate 205, the Glenn Jackson Bridge, to access Vancouver and points north.

The cables help raise and lower the bridge spans, and every year ODOT crews lubricate more than six miles of cable to keep the lift apparatus on the aging bridge in operating condition, according to a recent ODOT release.
