Clark County set a new record for COVID-19 cases on Monday, reporting 310 new cases since Friday and rising numbers of active cases and hospitalizations.
One new death was reported: a woman age 80 or older with underlying health conditions, according to Clark County Public Health. Her death brings the county’s death toll from COVID-19 to 80 since the pandemic began in March.
The new cases, which work out to an average of just over 103 cases per day, bring the county’s total number of COVID-19 cases to 6,470 to date, according to Public Health data.
COVID-19 cases have been growing rapidly in the past several weeks. The 832 new cases reported last week was more than double the number reported only two weeks before.
The number of active cases, which tracks people still in isolation, rose from 451 on Friday to 482 on Monday.
Hospitalizations are increasing. There were 50 people hospitalized with COVID-19 and four hospitalized awaiting test results.
Public Health reported that 75 percent of Clark County’s ICU beds and 76.3 percent of all hospital beds were occupied on Monday. Public Health reported that just under 9 percent of all licensed beds in the county were occupied by people with or suspected of having COVID-19 on Monday.
The data about ICU bed occupancy appeared to represent a huge jump in ICU usage, from about 11 percent on Friday, but Public Health said Monday that it had just changed the way it was reporting data about hospitalizations. Previously, the ICU statistic reflected the percentage of ICU beds occupied out of the total number of hospital beds. Now it reflects the percentage of ICU beds occupied out of the number of ICU beds available.
