A 29-year-old Portland man is being held on $300,000 bail in an alleged armed carjacking Wednesday in Vancouver.

Larontae R. Robinson faces allegations of first-degree assault, first-degree robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of methamphetamine. He appeared Thursday in Clark County Superior Court before Judge Jennifer Snider. An arraignment hearing is scheduled for Nov. 20, court records show.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Vancouver police officers were dispatched Wednesday around 8 p.m. to 5600 N.E. Fourth Plain Blvd., for a report of a carjacking.

Arriving officers interviewed the two victims, who said a man dressed in blue clothing and wearing a white face mask approached them while they were sitting in a family member’s 2007 Mercedes sedan. He displayed a firearm while trying to open the driver’s door, according to the affidavit.

The man, later identified by police as Robinson, entered the car through the rear driver’s side door. He allegedly pointed his gun at the heads of both victims and said, “Get the (expletive) out, this is my car now,” the affidavit says.

The victims exited the vehicle, and Robinson drove off, court records say.

An officer located the vehicle in the 3000 block of Northeast 57th Avenue. A man matching the suspect’s description was seen exiting the car, according to the affidavit. More officers arrived, and Robinson was detained.

Robinson had a pistol in his pants pocket, as well as a loaded magazine and the car keys in his hands, according to the affidavit. There was also allegedly a small bag of a crystalline substance on the ground near his feet.

He told the officers he thought the vehicle belonged to his family so he was taking it back, and he admitted to ingesting some “bad” methamphetamine, the affidavit says.
