Clark County’s director of Community Development will step away from that position to serve as fire marshal.

Dan Young has been serving as the Clark County interim fire marshal since October 2019, Interim Clark County Manager Kathleen Otto announced Tuesday.

Young has also been working as the community development director since December 2019, and he will continue to fill that role until his replacement is found.

“I appreciate all that Dan has done both in Community Development and the fire marshal’s office during the past year,” Otto said.

Young previously worked as the building inspections manager in the county’s Building Safety program. He has experience as a deputy state fire marshal, a Clark County deputy fire marshal and as a building inspector for the county and the city of Battle Ground.

“I appreciate the county manager and Community Development staff for understanding and supporting my choice to step away from the role of director,” Young said. “I’m looking forward to focusing my efforts on being Clark County’s fire marshal.”

The Community Development Department includes the building safety, development engineering, business technology and land use divisions. The county will publicly post the opening for the director position in the near future.
