Clark County recorded 84 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, hitting a new single-day high, while also surpassing 5,000 cases since the start of the pandemic.

The county has 5,083 confirmed cases to date. Clark County Public Health reported one new death, a woman in her 70s, on Tuesday. The county now has 71 total deaths.

In the midst of a virus surge, the county has 255 active COVID-19 cases, or people still in their isolation period. That number is down from 266 active cases Monday. But virus activity continues to increase in Clark County.

The current rate of new COVID-19 cases in the county is 131.42 cases per 100,000 residents over 14 days, an increase from 123.85 per 100,000 from last week.

Clark County remains in the “high range” of COVID-19 activity, according to the state’s guidelines.

According to the latest testing data from Public Health, Clark County continues to see an increase in the percent of positive tests.

The county remained above 3 percent positivity for COVID-19 tests between Sept. 6 and Oct. 17. The week ending Oct. 17 saw 5.63 percent of 5,453 tests return positive. The week before that 4.43 percent of 7,022 tests returned positive. In those two weeks, Clark County tallied 618 cases.

The state would like for counties to have less than 2 percent of tests return positive to enter Phase 3 of the COVID-19 recovery plan.

There are 34 people hospitalized for COVID-19 in Clark County, up from 33 on Monday. Another nine people are hospitalized awaiting coronavirus test results.

The county is at its highest COVID-19 hospitalization numbers, since the first cases were reported in Clark County about eight months ago.
