Battle Ground Public Schools director Tina Lambert will resign from the school board effective June 10, the district has announced.
Lambert, who was elected to the board in 2017, is moving out of the area to be closer to her family, according to the school district. During her tenure, she served on the board’s audits and tours committee, as well as the school board’s representative to the Legislature.
“Tina has devoted herself to working for our students,” Superintendent Mark Ross said in a district news release. “We are forever grateful for her volunteer service.”
Lambert was an active opponent of the district’s efforts to adopt comprehensive sexual health education, moving last year to overturn requirements that the district provide sexual health education to students. The controversy in Battle Ground was arguably a catalyst for the state Legislature’s mandate that all districts offer comprehensive sexual health education. That law, passed this year, is being challenged by a group attempting to gather signatures that would move the issue to a referendum on the November ballot.
