The Camas-Washougal Community Chest used returned grant money to help seven nonprofits provide essential services during the pandemic.
The coronavirus pandemic began shortly after the Community Chest had announced $110,000 in grant awards. After a grantee said they were no longer able to use the award and returned it, the Community Chest reached out to all of its grant recipients.
Using $20,500 in returned award money, the Community Chest gave out $30,000 in supplemental grants to organizations helping people during the pandemic. Inter-Faith Treasure House ($5,000), Children’s Home Society of Washington ($5,000), the Clark County Veteran’s Assistance Center ($2,500), Meals on Wheels People ($2,000) and Impact CW/St. Matthew Lutheran Church ($3,500) all received money for food programs and services. REACH Community Development received $3,000 for school supplies for students, and food, rent and utility assistance for low-income families. Family Promise of Clark County was awarded $9,000 to shelter homeless families.
