Weather Eye: Drizzly weather will soon give way to sunny skies

With all the clouds and spotty light rain or drizzle Wednesday, Vancouver never got out of the 50s for the high or the low temperature as of 5 p.m. The high was 57 and low 52 degrees. Quite odd for the month of May.

More light rain or showers today, perhaps a thunderstorm somewhere and snow in the mountains. Yep, I said snow and upward of a foot above 6,000 feet. At the lower pass levels some snow could be falling but not on roadways. A brief chilly air mass.

Friday, we keep a risk of showers and then a pleasant day on Saturday with highs close to 70 degrees, just about average for the date. We have one last weak weather system to deal with later on Sunday into early Monday. Some forecast models drag it over us and others keep it to the north. Regardless, any rainfall would be light.

Next week high pressure builds and we enjoy a mostly warm and sunny week. Highs will ease into the 70s and perhaps 80s if all goes well. Earlier some indications of 90- to 95-degree weather were on the radar. As of Wednesday, things have trended downward but we will discuss the temperatures on Sunday. Still waiting for that first 90-degree day.

With that lively storm that moved through Monday and early Tuesday, we had about a third of an inch of rain locally. Much more in the foothills and eastward. It was blustery in Central and Eastern Washington with funnel clouds spotted near Moses Lake, Ritzville and a tornado near Pullman. No damage reported.

I haven’t given it a thought with the weather and other crazy things going on, but the other day I was driving along and I saw a sign, “Fresh picked local strawberries.” Boy and it’s not even June yet. You know me and local berries, and of course watermelons, but we need many more hot days east of the mountains for that.

Take good care and manage the showers today and we will chat on Sunday.
