May 18 is the 40th anniversary of the eruption of Mount St. Helens. To celebrate the volcano’s “eruptiversary”– a tonge-in-cheek term coined by the Mount St. Helens Institute, headquartered in Amboy– Bill Nye the Science Guy will temporarily become Bill Nye the Volcano Guy during a livestreamed broadcast at 6 p.m. May 16. The Cowlitz Indian Tribe presents 45 minutes of explosive fun with Bill Nye in conversation with the Mount St. Helens Institute and KING5 on Facebook at www.facebook.com/mshinstitute/ and YouTube at www.youtube.com/channel/UC21fnDewX_begL0xw8U3ljg.

Nye is well known for the PBS children’s science show “Bill Nye the Science Guy,” which he hosted from 1993 to 1998, as well as the podcast “Science Rules! with Bill Nye,”and for his many media appearances a science educator. Nye has served as a Mount St. Helens Institute board member since 2005. The event is free to watch, but donations to the Mount St. Helens Institute are encouraged at www.mshinstitute.org.

This livestream event replaces “Bill Nye Live 2020!” scheduled for May 15 at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, which was canceled due to the pandemic.
