Major campaign declarations started to wind down during the fourth day of filing week at the Clark County Elections Office, with no new candidates for Congress or the Washington Legislature.
As of 5 p.m. Thursday, 481 candidates had filed their campaigns with the county auditor. The vast majority are running for party precinct officer; Clark County, alone, has 314 party precincts, and both Democrats and Republicans are seeking officers to lead each one.
Filing week started at 9 a.m. Monday and will conclude 5 p.m. today. Candidates are required to register with the county elections office in order to appear on the Aug. 6 primary election ballot.
Aside from party precinct officers, Thursday also saw more candidates file to serve on the Clark County Charter Review Commission. A total of 40 people are now running for the commission that will review and recommend revisions to the county’s governing document. The county charter was adopted in November 2014, with the requirement that it be reviewed by an elected nonpartisan body after five years.
