A fire destroyed a detached garage at a home in Battle Ground on Tuesday night, according to the Clark County Fire District 3 fire marshal.

The fire district’s crews were dispatched at 8:41 p.m. to the 2900 block of Southeast Grace Avenue for a report of a shop fire.

The first engine arrived in three minutes and found a 1,000-square-foot detached garage up in flames, Fire Marshal Chris Drone said.

Crews doused the fire from the exterior of the garage while simultaneously putting water on a home that was about 15 feet away, Drone said.

Once more firefighters arrived, including crews from Clark County Fire & Rescue and Vancouver Fire Department, they were able to enter the building, he said.

It took about 30 minutes to get the fire under control.

The fire marshal commended crews for their efforts. He said there were strong gusts of wind during the response that made it more difficult than usual.

No one was injured or displaced by the fire, which destroyed the garage and caused an estimated $80,000 worth of damage to the building and its contents, according to the fire marshal.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but Drone said it appears to have been an accident.
