A Vancouver man avoided injury Friday after swerving out of the way of a wrong-way driver and crashing on Interstate 84 in Oregon, according to Oregon State Police.
Troopers and emergency personnel responded about 11:40 a.m. to a hit-and-run crash near Exit 85 in The Dalles, Ore.
Witnesses reported a 2000s model Subaru Outback hatchback, lime green with gray highlights and dusty red dirt, driving west in the eastbound lanes. Witnesses described the driver as a heavy-set man with gray, ear-length hair and a full beard, according to an Oregon State Police news release.
Several vehicles swerved to avoid the vehicle. A Ford Focus, driven by Peter Chapman, 24, of Vancouver swerved, struck the center divider and rolled onto its side. Chapman was wearing a seat belt and was uninjured, the news release says.
